5-year-old living with rare disorder

SHREWSBURY— William Plourde is living proof that donating blood really can save lives.

The 5-year-old was born with a spontaneous gene mutation that was discovered when he was 9 months old. Doctors determined he had Diamond Blackfan anemia, a rare condition that prevents his bone marrow from making red blood cells. He’s had 24 blood transfusions so far, and probably will need to keep getting transfusions to stay alive. klik hier voor het volledige artikel (engelstalig)
